A lot of people have been waiting for this player. Well they should wait some more as it is not ready for prime time. There are cheaper better players that work better than this one.

First let me say that most of the problems have to do with media other than Blu-ray disks. Many of us were looking for a nice Blu-ray player that would play media from USB drives and even stream them from you PC. While this unit claims to do that it is riddled with problems. Let me list them.

1. Lets talk about streaming media. First you need to connect the player to your network. I tried and tried and could not get the wireless dongle that comes with the player to work with my network. I'm not even using any security on my network. It just refused to connect to my wireless router. After an hour of messing with settings I gave up and resorted to using a wired connection. I was able to connect to the network but my shared drives are password protected. You have to manually enter the IP address of the PC and the folder name as well as the username and password. All fine and dandy. I did get it to work however. As soon as you power down the player (power switch) it loses the data. This is unacceptable. Ever try to enter all that information with a remote. No way. I resorted to providing guest accounts (Open) so that they could be searched and accessed. This works and you are able to access the DIVX avi files. Power down the machine and you have to search again.

2. No streaming of any other video format from PC/USB or Data DVD. Not even H264 MP4 files as stated in the manual. Only DIVX and XVID avi files are supported. And these have major issues almost every single file played started to stutter once you were about 20-30 minutes into the video. It does not matter if they were streamed form PC/USB or DATA DVD. The DIVX decoder on this machine has major problems and no other codec or format is supported.

3. Cannot fast-forward or rewind faster than X8 when watching DIVX movies. This means if you are resuming a move near the end its going to take you 10-15 minutes to get there.

4. When going from PC to Disk to USB the player gets lost and you have to cycle the power to get back on track.

5. Top buttons are touch sensitive and don't always work the first time you touch them.

6. Manual Stinks. No support on website. In major need of a firmware upgrade.

7. You cannot use a Blu-Ray BD-R or BD-RE as a data disk with media. Does not work.

OK all that said the player does a great job of up converting standard DVD's. The look great. Bottom line is you are paying a lot to get these other features and they just don't deliver. I could have lived with just about every thing but the stutter problem. This makes the player unsuitable for use other than as standard Blu-Ray or DVD player and there are much cheaper choices for this.

I differ with the first reviewer and am very satisfied with the player. It does a beautiful job of playing Blu-Ray disks and the image is immaculate as is the audio (the primary reason for buying any player). Netflix stream is great (it also streams in HD where the content is available - much nicer than the image on a PC), Pandora internet radio is a bonus.
I had no trouble connecting to my network. It was very easy and by putting my media into a shared (public) folder there was no complicated set up. I agree that this aspect of the player is a work in progress - codec support seems spotty - some played, some did not. Samsung has always done a great job of supporting their products (I've owned printers, TV's, etc.), so I expect further improvements.
My conclusion is that if what you want is a great Blu-Ray player with good networking and excellent audio then this IS the player. After searching and searching I finally decided on this player while browsing at best buy over the weekend. Suprising to say the least! Pros- one word. Wifi!! Having this feature built into a blu ray is simply terrfic. Now I understand the bragging rights ps3 owners have had for so long. pro number 2 pandora! A fantastic program that makes life so easy and finding the music you want simple. Plays blu rays and upscales beautifully. The dark knight was my test for blu ray and walle as my upscale. Sound is also fantastic and the sync with a samsung is flawless. Only con I can see is the player feels flimsy but so be sure to test drive or hold it in your hands. For those already complaining about this player, relax. Give it some time. Wifi is here to stay and as of right now I don't know how I ever lived without it on a blu ray player. I have owned this for several days and overall it has been an excellent experience. The player sets up quickly and easily detects my wifi network and also worked well with a cat-6 cable. My connection is 3-4 Mbps and this is rated "very good" for netflix streaming videos which look DVD quality. On-screen menus are very clear and easy to follow. The player itself works very well with only a few seconds delay. I have it hooked to my yamaha 663 receiver via HDMI; no problems. Given the complaints people gave about Blu-ray players, this player was a pleasant surprise. I'm glad I made the move to Blu-Ray and the netflix/pandora additions make this a no-brainer. Not sure if it was worth the extra $$ over the BD-P1600 from Samsung, but would be if you don't have a router near your player and need the wifi link to the internet. Ok this is my first product review so have some mercy.
I have read about this player in the Netflix flyer inside my netlfix dvd envelope. I have been using a 2nd generation Sharp BR and a Roku netflix player and was thinking about getting this unit. I am a fan of streaming Netflicks and Pandora. I really do not like the Sharp player I bought 16 months ago. I was looking at getting a more current blue ray player and a chance to reduce the foot print of my audio/video equipment. My wireless router is in a bedroom and I did not want a pc right next to the TV. I went to Best Buy talked to a sales man about this unit and decided to buy it for 399.00.
First impression as I got it out of the box is that it is smaller and lighter than my previous blueray player. I learned from my previous BR player to check for software upgrades before hooking it up all the way.I looked the model up at the Samsung web site. No firmware update was needed. It took me about 5 minutes to hook it up.
The system set up took me about 30 minutes. It is pretty straight forward till you get to the network and pc set up section. If you are used to setting up ip addreses and set up your own wirless network it is fairly easy to set up. It found my wireless router and connected up to it in about 3 minutes. The more secure you have your network the more work it will take to connect to it. You need to know if your using DHCP or if you have to plug in ip addresses ect. I use DHCP and that method is a lot easirer to set up. I have turned the unit off and back on many times and it maintained the wireless infomation from the original set up. You may want to give the unit a few minutes after you power it on to connect up to your wirless network before trying to access netflicks or Pandorda. The remote works great with the Netflix streaming and with Pandora. I have not tried setting up shared folders on my pc to be accessed via my wirless network. That will be something I will try later.
Since I have a Samsung HDTV the BR player remote works well with my TV.
Now what about the dvd and BR function.
With out getting exact numbers ect. The picture and sound is great. It loads quick. I am able to reduce the number of audio/video devices and remote controls. It is a improvement on what I had. I am liking this new toy.
Things that could be improved are :
Lighted keys on the remote.
When you are watching Netflicks or listening to Pandora if you load a dvd it will stop the netflicks/pandora streaming and go to dvd mode.

I don't understand why Samsung would even release this thing. I purchased this player mainly because of the Wi-Fi and the Pandora features. Problem is, while both those things seem to work great, I can't get the thing to function the way it was intended: TO PLAY MOVIES! I'm on my second one of these now and they both have the same problems. Movies freeze, lag... sometimes load, sometimes don't. And I've got a couple discs (Iron Man & Goodfellas) that won't play at all! I've even had problems with standard dvds working. When it does work, the sound and picture are great. Problem is, it hardly ever works without an issue. This player is so damn temperamental it's a joke. I understand there are currently issues with players reading certain discs, but when you supposedly have the current firmware upgrade you'd think at least SOME of your movies would play without issue. Guess not. It's irritating that Samsung would release a supposedly 'high-end' player for $400 with this many bugs. Now I have to take back my second one for the same problems I had with the first. When choosing a blu ray player, the choice can be confusing at times. After months of searching I now believe the best ones are the ones that match your needs most, after price point. Here is my review after a night well spent learning the ins and outs.

Pros-

Wifi-- This year Wifi will be all the rage. Set up with my samsung after a slight learning curve took 20 mins tops and once connected it worked flawlessy. I didn't even need to read the manuel. Superb and blazing fast!

Pandora--what a terrific gem of a music program. And its free! The learning curve is super easy and fun. I was able to program it from my mobile phone, and there it is two seconds later. I am a happy camper!

Netflix-- Great. super simple! Netflix needs more choices, but that is not Samsung's fault.

wifi dongle!- They could have charged for this. They didn't. Great!

cons, if it is one--The player feels flimsy upon first contact so that you almost want to be super gentle with it. As opposed to the sturdier players out there. If that concerns you, i suggest you hold a floor model first and decide for yourself. Also, still no hdmi plugs offered with the majority of players, this one included. Makes no sense at this point. Luckily i have spares.

Overall- a solid player, with wonderful audio and visual clarity. My test for blu ray, The Dark Knight. Looked amazing, sound oustanding. Test for upscale, Wall-E. Looked incredible and rich.

Nice job samsung!!!

UPDATE: Not sure what all the griping is about for a select few, but I watched Punisher Warzone on this player, a hard hitting film if there ever was one and this player did not hiccup. Audio and visual clarity were fantastic!! Also just watched quantum of solace. No issues. A little lag in the load time but I suspect that has to do with the dvd not the player. Sounded and looked great!! Be cautious of those few on here who get one bad lemon and decide the whole basket is rotten.

Three and a half month update: Still no problems to report with this player. I have not had one single issue with any movie I have thrown at it and I have now played over 200 films on it. it's a workhorse. So far the Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-Ray player is amazing. The wireless connection to the Internet works great. Streaming Netflix over wi-fi is extremely convenient, although the image quality is no better than an ordinary DVD. Pandora personalized radio stations is awesome. Playing DVDs is a breeze and it works flawlessly. I just updated Netflix to send me Blu-Ray DVDs, so I cannot comment on the Blu-Ray functions yet. I love the "idea" of this product...if only it actually worked properly. I tried watching a Netflix movie and about 20 minutes into it, it just suddenly stopped and gave me a message about the movie not being available. Thinking it was just my wireless connection or Netflix, I figured it was just a glitch that I would overcome later. No luck. After 5 times, I gave up.

I decided to watch a blu-ray movie instead. An hour into it, the movie paused and the player made a funky noise while the display dimmed about 6 times. The movie then skipped ahead and I was able to watch another 20 minutes before it did the same thing again. I tested the movie in my PS3 and it played fine. I've had this for 5 hours & still sitting in front of it. Getting ready to watch my 3rd Netflix streaming video. I upgrade from a Samsung older Blu-ray BDP-1400. While this is an adequate Blu-ray player, the feature that I bought it for didn't work, and I returned it.

It is advertised to play video files from your home PC over the network. However, there are several issues with this.

1) In automatic scan mode, if you have more than one device on the network that has an open Windows (or Samba) share folder, the BD-P3600 will grab the first one it finds and not allow you to change it. In my case it was seldom the right one.

2) In manual scan mode, you must enter (through a scroll-to-the-character-and-select interface) the IP address, the share folder name, and the user ID and password (even if there is none). It will then find the right folder. BUT THIS INFO IS NOT SAVED. Next time you have to do it all over again. Gahhhhhhhhhh!!!

3) The only files it will play are AVI (DivX) files, and only standard def ones at that. No HD, no MKV formats. While not strictly necessary, this would be expected in an HD player.

4) Network setup is tricky for some, and many people have had difficulty with the (included) WiFi setup. I used Ethernet, with is easier.

Having said that, though, the Netflix setup was pretty good, limited only by my 4MB DSL connection, which isn't quite fast enough for some HD.

The Blu-ray performance is very good, though. But I was replacing a good enough BD deck for the added features, which didn't meet their promise. So I stuck with what I already had.

I purchased this player yesterday evening at PC Richards ($355), It took me less than 1/2 hour to begin watching a netflix movie. Used HDMI cable, just unhooked the one already in my receiver for the old DVD player (a 5 disk sony upconverter), repluged it in the Samsung, pluged in the included dongle thing, searched for a wi-fi network, found mine, entered password, and away it went.
Viewed a regular DVD, the upconversion is much better than my old sony
Viewed a HD netflix movie - great
Viewed a regular netflix - not as good as the upconverted DVD quality, but better than a regular DVD. I can't beleive how good this works.
Added pandora music, also works fantastic.
only downside, the netflix only come out in Dolby 2 channel. Don't know if its me or netflix.

I have been looking at buying a networking BR player for quite some time now, and was first attracted to the 1600 model. After checking in to the cost of setting that model up for wireless streaming I saw the value in spending a little more upfront on the 3600 model which includes the dongle and memory already. I did upgrade my router to a N-series- I had the same one since 2003 or 2004, so it needed updating anyway. I am getting beyond my tech-savy years and things don't connect the way they used to, so I needed to make a couple of calls to the tech folks at D-link and to Samsung in order to get the player set up for streaming. It took maybe an hour to do this and I was on hold for only a short while. So here is the BUT. The player sees the movies in the que and I can move from movie to movie, see the description, actors, viewing time, etc. but I don't see any images. I see a blank white rectangle where there should be a DVD cover in the preview menu, and when I select play, I go to a black screen with the title and two bars at the bottom. No loading occurs, and after about 15 seconds I get a message that the movie is unable to be viewed. So the streaming works, kind of. I'd be more upset if there were movies able to be seen this way that had more of an appeal to me. I thought it might be a connection thing, but I am seeing the various menus quite clearly. Just not the images. Puzzling. The BR discs are pretty amazing when viewed in full HD. And the sound....at last my speakers sound every bit their price. Would love to know how to actually see something off Netflix, and I am sure eventally I will. I bought this at Best Buy for the fact it was exclusive to them for about 2 months of it's initial release. It looks great in the home theater and offers promising features. I bought this more so for the streaming Pandora, Netflix, and Divx encoded files. There a plenty Blu Ray players out there but not too many offer these features. I am partial to samsung HT products being that I love my TV by them.

Blu Ray:

The Blu Ray seems to take too long to load. I have had issues loading some discs and have found others having the same problems. Wall E from Disney took me about 5 tries to get it to play. It seems slow when trying to do anything with blu ray.

DVD:

I played my first regular DVD the other day and my experience was disappointing. The movie froze about 20 minutes in and i had to stop and hit play again. At another point it skipped a few times. This was brand new DVD out of the case.

Streaming and Networking:

AHH! First off I am pretty tech savvy in all fields of networking and HT. Getting this to connect to my newer Linksys wireless N router is a chore. I do like that a wireless N dongle is included but it is painstaking to get this to work. The pandora works well when you can connect. The streaming from the PC works well for the most part but I usually have to reboot the player a few times to get it find my shared folders. I haven't used the netflix yet because I don't want to pay for a subscription and have my device not work with it. The player offers WPS, or "Wifi Protected Setup". This is nice if you have a networking device that also supports it which mine does. However! It never worked. The only way to get this player to connect to my N or G network is to completely remove all security which I imagine most consumers do not want to do. Lastly, it freezes. It just freezes! I have had to unplug the unit itself about 5 times since ownership from these freezes.

Conclusion. I had high hopes. I am disappointed. I love Samsung products more than any other but i cannot recommend this player. My only hope is that they release updates for which can be done automatically when connected to a network, that is if I can connect in the first place. I was looking for a replacement to a several-year old upconverting DVD player that had served me well for some time, but was having some problems with discs freezing during playback. Since the cleaning kit probably cost as much as a new DVD player, I decided to upgrade to Blu-Ray instead. I did some searching online, and based on several reviews (this site and others) I opted for the BD-P3600 from Samsung and have been very satisfied with the purchase. It was incredibly easy to set up out of the box, with minimal instructions. I connected it to the TV via HDMI and then hardwire ethernet to our wireless router (and hence to cable modem). It loaded up fine and then has been smooth sailing ever since. No issues with Blu-Ray playback so far, and everything's fine with over-the-internet streaming from either Netflix or Pandora. I have not tried to use the wireless connection yet, or tried to stream video from a networked computer, so I cannot comment on that. Of course, the only downside is that my TV is in need of upgrading now (I bought my LCD 4 years ago, and apparently, it doesn't support 1080p). Cheapest Samsung BD-P3600 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Let's start with the good - Blu-ray discs play well, and upconverting of standard DVDs is pretty spectacular - far better than my HD-DVD player. Only down side for normal usage is that it does take a little while to start up, but no longer than any other hi-def players I've seen.

I chose this player over others at a similar price point because of the advertised value adds - the WiFi link, Netflix and Pandora apps built in, and the ability to stream content from my PC.
Unfortunately, none of these items work well.

The WiFi took me several hours to get working, (which surprised me as I work in IT, and am relatively experienced at setting up WiFi networks and attaching devices) - most of the difficulty seemed to be in getting the player to see my network, and getting the security settings correct. Once set up, it worked well, until the first re-start of the player, when I had to re-enter all the settings to re-connect to the network...a pretty painful experience. Currently when I start the player, there's around a 30% chance it'll connect to my wireless network with out intervention - a pain for me to set up, but impossible for other members of my family - WiFi is effectively useless.

The Netflix and Pandora apps work just fine when they work, but I've seen the same kind of streaming stutter that others have mentioned while both wired and wireless. It seems to be worse on Pandora than Netflix. This is bad enough to be not acceptable for a media experience, so I don't use them.

I could never make streaming from my PC work, so it's hard to really comment on it, apart from to note that the other media devices I have stream from the same PC with no problems.

All in all, the idea of this player is great, it's a serious attempt to capture the position of the main media device in the living room. Unfortunately, it feels like it was released way before it was ready, and there are still far too many bugs, both core system and user experience, to make it a practical device for anything other than playing BRD or DVD content.
Other, cheaper players will do the basic disc playing just as well as this machine, and the value add pieces that justify the higher price aren't ready for prime time yet. Maybe I'm a little harsh in this rating because the player does very well in playing BD and DVD both visually and aurally. But (and this is a big BUT), the pause time for DVD layer switching is 1-2 seconds! No recent player should ever have ANY pause at the layer switch. I've never felt so conflicted about a piece of home theater gear in my life. On the one hand, the BD-P3600 offers very good to excellent audio and video performance on DVDs and Blu-ray Discs as well as some great internet streaming features. On the other hand the "PC Streaming" feature is frustratingly hard to use and unreliable to the point that I finally gave up trying to get it to work.

A few die-hard audio/videophiles were worried when Samsung chose not to include the excellent Silicon Optix Reon HQV video processor in this year's line-up of Blu-ray Disc players. The DVD upconversion on last year's BD-P2500 was outstanding and many of us were concerned that its omission from the BD-P3600 would lead to noticeably inferior standard def performance. Turns out there was little to worry about as both the DVD and Blu-ray performance of the BD-P3600 are excellent, comparable to Panasonic's DMP-BD80 and superior to LG's BD370.

Also, with on-board decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio over HDMI/PCM and multi-channel analog outputs, the audio performance and flexibility of the BD-P3600 is also excellent. Throw in the included WiFi dongle, BD-Live support, quick disc loading, Netflix online streaming and Pandora internet radio and you get one full-featured high performance Blu-ray player. That is until you try out Samsung's new PC streaming feature.

With PC streaming, you can access media files (photos, music and Divx videos) directly from a PC with shared folders on the same home network... at least in theory. When we tested this, the "automatic" feature to detect sharable PCs on the network failed entirely and we had to resort to manually providing the IP address of the PC, and even this was not reliable. This process wouldn't be such a pain except that the player does not have a "remember me" function to remember the IP address, share name, userid and password for the next connection, and entering all of this manually using the remote and on-screen graphical keyboard is a time-consuming process. Also, we found that the player hung on multiple occasions while attempting to playback AVIs from the networked PC, and the only way to recover from this was a re-boot (which, of course, forgot all of our network information). Meanwhile, playback of the same content from a USB flash drive connected to the player's front or rear USB port, worked reliably, without all the drama.

As a Blu-ray Disc and DVD player, the BD-P3600 performs very well. It is one of the fastest players to load up both standard DVDs and Blu-ray Discs (faster, in most cases, than even the PS3). Also, the Pandora and Netflix streaming features are very reliable and add quite a bit to the overall flexibility and versatility of the player. But Samsung really should have waited to release the PC streaming feature until it was more robust and more reliable. If you promise not to use this feature, then I'd happily recommend the BD-P3600 as a full-featured high performance Blu-ray and DVD player. But those who do want to take advantage of PC streaming are in for some serious frustration.

UPDATE: I have been using the BD-P3600 for almost two months, connected wirelessly via a very ordinary Actiontec 54mbps DSL gateway. The video is spectacular for Blu Ray and excellent for standard DVDs, better on both fronts than with my PS3. NetFlix and Pandora both work well and are very stable. I'm not sure why anyone like me (a non-techie) who can read the owners manual and work a bit with the setup for wireless should have a problem. This morning a software update was prompted, and after installing I had to repeat setup, which took about ten minutes even though I didn't remember the details of the initial setup. I have been able to stream from my PC, but this is less stable, and does not work for my WAV music files. MP3 files are fine, but at present I don't believe the BD-P3600 is a viable option for streaming music on a regular basis. I use my Vaio laptop as my AV component for streaming music and other files, with a Logitech V450 mouse as my remote (also using a virtual keyboard). That's a much more versatile streaming setup than I believe anything like the BD-P3600 could match. The Samsung is so very good in all other respects that I give it 5 stars. It is faster and more stable than any DVD player I have used (and that includes Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, and Panasonic). I absolutely love this Samsung BD-P3600 Blu-Ray Disc Player! It is easy to use and a breeze to install (I don't have HDMI so I had to purchase component cables which were not expensive). The picture is terrific (1080p). It hasn't had any problems reading any of my DVD's, both HD and non-HD. The remote is easy to use and the menus very easy to read. But, most of all, I love the optional Netflix and Pandora features. I already had a Pandora account (it's free, you know), so getting that set up was not bad at all. It SOUNDS wonderful!! Netflix offers a free 2-week trial so you can try it out to see if you like it. Duh....it's amazing. I have a Blockbuster account, but this is better because I can go in and "queue" up videos to watch later, when we don't have a disc. Blockbuster is fine, but with this Samsung, the only way to go is Netflix! The wireless setup was very easy to do. But, the reason I gave this model a 4 instead of a 5 (it wouldn't let me do 4.5) is that I'm having issues with keeping the connection between viewings. Once I turn it off, the next time I turn it back on, it shows not connected. I will try to reach Samsung about this issue because I think it's simply something I'm overlooking, but haven't had time to do so until school is out (I'm a teacher). It is this simple- This is a great product. I even use it connected to a Netbridge (even though Samsung does not "officially" support this set-up).

My only complaint, Samsungs usual stellar customer support really lacks on this product. Don't even think about calling to ask any set-up questions. Luckily, I was able to figure the netbridge set up. Actually, I was making it harder than it was, just configure your netbridge (use a HD bridge) and plug in. Well I read reviews where people had problems with this player but I have had none. Wireless setup was simple. Hooked right up to my secure wireless N router. Most difficult part was having to use my laptop to sign into Netflix to activate the instant video password. Which was simple. Was watching WALL-E over my wireless hookup in 20 seconds. Now it didn't look HD but it was a decent picture. Also watched Swingers, loaded in 20 seconds.

Took me longer to run the HDMI than it actually took to set up.

Blu-Ray looks awesome. Sound is great. Touch top controls are cool. I would recommend this to anyone.

I own the 2550 and wanted wireless Netflix and Pandora.
I love the 2550 and have two of them in different rooms, but the one in the den did not reach the ethernet cable - so I decided to "upgrade."
Big mistake. Well - not that big since Amazon did return it effortlessly.

But the unit was full of problems. After hours of trying different things, I finally got it to work ONCE! And it never did again after that one time.
Only then did i begin to read other peoples' similar experiences which finally convinced me to pack it up and ship it back.

Then I made a fantastic discovery! I found that I had been daisy chaining my time capsule with older Airport expresses which slowed my whole network down. So I bought a new Airport, daisy chained it with my base station and VOILA - wireless connection for my Samsung 2550!!! All you do is plug it into the airport. It works flawlessly.

Bought this from Amazon last week on one of their great deals for $276 with 4 BD movies. This player is outstanding, load times are as fast as a PS3 and every BD movie I played so far works flawlessly. Has TrueHD and DTS-HD MA, Netflix and Pandora work great on the included wireless adapter. I read a lot of reviews about people have problems with the included wifi adapter. It took me about 45 seconds to connect it to my Linksys wireless N router with WAP turned on and I have not lost any singnal yet. It is connected to a Denon AVR-789 and a Samsung ln52a 52" 120hz LCD. I'm no stranger to Samsung HD products - I own a Samsung 72" LED DLP tv, 1400 BD, 2500 BD and now the 3600 BD. I received my 3600 on 5/28/09 and while I found it extremely easy to setup and use Netflix, when I tried to use the player the next afternoon, it first went to the dreaded green screen and after a reboot, it would stop after powering up and was stuck on the LOAD display message... Samsung was going to take it back for repair (as even they couldn't get it to reset) - but that wasn't good enough (REPAIR??? I didn't want a player riddled with problems). To Best Buys credit, they took it back and I got another one.

I got another one?? Yes, I have had, for the most part, great experiences with my Samsung HD products - and I have to say that at least for me, the wireless network ability on this player is fantastic! I also looked at the 4600, but why pay an extra $100 for the looks of the player? As long as this new 3600 player can make it beyond a 24 hour period, I would recommend it.

Ok just got this player a few days ago.
1) Set up was easy
2) Picture quality and sound incredible ! I have a Pannasonic BD-30 and the Samungs picture is better in BD.
3) Standards DVD discs or passable but very hard to compare after watching High Def discs.
4) My Toshiba HD-Xa2 still the best standard DVD player around.
5) The networking has been a problem,can't get the wireles signal here in my basement apartment,can't get an ethernet wire down in my apartment,I'm on wireless with the computer but I can't seem to figure out whats going on here.
I'm sure its not the player I have to look into more connection options.
6) I big concern is no picture settings ???? color,tint etc-etc

The DVD quality is very good. Blu Rays of course are better.

As of May 31, 2009 there is no firmware update for this player that solves compatibility issues with lots of disks. While some disks will play fine, others will freeze at random points and then skip back to some point earlier in the movie. I did a lot of searching to find which player was right for me. After some consideration, i chose this model. After hooking up everything, i was amazed at the ease of connecting this player to my wireless home network. I read at how others had struggled with these issues, but found mine was very straight forward and that i had no problems. I am able to stream movies from my computer and they play in amazing clarity. The blu ray playback with blu ray disks is excellent and the up convert to 1080P for regular DVDs is also really good. Connecting this player to my existing audio video receiver was a bit of trial and error. Since my receiver is a few years old, it did not have the HDMI inputs for audio, so instead i used optical. You couldn't beat the deal Amazon had! We got the player (Wi-Fi dongle included)& 4 blu ray movies for a total price of $291.
We just received our player last night and it was very easy for my husband to set up! It only took him a couple of minutes. The dongle connected to our Wi-Fi without a glitch. The player is connected to our Denon 3806 receiver and a Sony 1.3 HDMI cable was used (sales guy at Best Buy said we didn't need to have Monster cable for this connection only from receiver to tv). We have the Samsung 58B650 Plasma to go along it with it and the output is amazing. In addition, the player already came with the recent firmware loaded.

The movie tested with the player was AUSTRALIA. It took less than 30 seconds to load. It did make a little noise initially when it was searching for the disc in the player but it went away once the movie loaded. I had set up the Netflix and Pandora on the player and that was very easy. If you are not familiar with Netflix, this is the way to go to rent blu-ray movies and be able to watch movies or shows instantly on this player! We had Pandora on while we were preparing for dinner and there was never an interruption with the connection on the Wi-Fi. We are very pleased with this player for the quality and options at its price point. You can't beat it!

7/2 It's been over a month now and I would like to do a follow up review. The player has worked flawlessly and there has not been a glitch. I turned on the player yesterday and the player automatically did it's firmware update. That took about half an hour. Afterwards, we watched Inkheart with no problems!

9/21 Still loving this player! Oh it plays my DVD-R & DVD+R. It even upconverts to where these movies look fabulous! The same movie in a regular DVD player does not compare.

I won't repeat what other positive reviews have said -- I agree with them.

I had an initially frustrating time connecting to any of my WiFi networks: all of them showed up in the BD-P3600's list, albeit with oddly truncated names, and they were marked as locked, even though none of the networks are encrypted. I finally realized that the BD-P3600 doesn't tolerate SSIDs with SPACES in the name, e.g., "Wireless Network." I simply removed all spaces from my SSIDs and the BD-P3600 connected effortlessly thereafter.

Setting up Pandora and Netflix was buttery smooth. I sat at my couch with a laptop computer and selected a movie for "instant view" at the Netflix website. Immediately the BD-P3600 recognized the addition and offered the movie for watching. It took little time to buffer. The quality bar was nearly but not at the highest quality, which surprised me since I have 20MBPS down through Verizon FIOS. The movie played great, however, and was comparable to DVD quality.

Also tested my home made movies shot on a Canon XH-A1 (high def camcorder) and burned in standard def to regular DVD. Upsampling from the BD-P3600 looked absolutely terrific on my Samsung LN52A850. I can't wait to burn in BluRay format.

I really like this Blue-Ray player. It plays DVDs and Blue-Rays very quickly. Picture looks superlative, even the DVDs look great.

I bought the Samnsung because of its extra features - it can tune into Pandora and access Netflix streaming.

The set up was easy - I plugged it in, placed the dongle into the USB port, followed the instructions on the screen and was up and running on my secured wireless network in minutes.

The only negatives: Very glossy, so it shows every fingerprint and speck of dust and I keep bumping the controls on the unit, as they are on top of the unit. Since I use the remote for most things, this latter minus is not huge. Finaly, the remote, like most remotes, is a bit cluttered. Manufactureres should look to TIVO or Logitech for remote design. So, my girlfriend promptly fried my Samsung BDP 1600, which I absolutely loved, so I was thinking it was time to upgrade. I really wish I would've just replaced it with the original now because this one has been nothing but a headache.

Every feature that I wanted in this player is flawed. Blu ray movies look fantastic...too bad the lip sync is off on my brand new Pirates of the Carribean DVD (as in blu ray, not standard).

Standard DVDs work...but not very often and when they do manage to load by some minor miracle, it's only a matter of time before it starts skipping and subsequently locks up. Of course the only thing I can do at that point is cycle the power. ..And yes this was a brand new standard DVD, fresh out the packaging, that I was attempting to watch. I tested standard DVD playback with other DVDs from my collection with similar, disastrous results.

But what about CDs you say? Forget about it. The performance on the brand new CD that I tested was even worse than standard DVDs. It skipped so badly that I took it out in frustration and resisted although just barely, the impulse to throw it (the player) out the window.

Don't even get me started on setting up wireless. I work in IT and this was infinitely more frustrating than it needed to be. It found my network, but wouldn't connect to it, because there were spaces in the network id...Guess how long it took me to figure that out? I was thinking this was a problem with my wireless security setup. Even after connecting to my network, I still wasn't able to utilize the bd live content on my Seven Pounds disc. I gave up once I realized that I had been waiting 20 plus minutes....

Also can someone please tell me why when the player first boots up, it boots up in a lower resolution, and then realizes that it needs to display in 1080p? So it boots up in a lower resolution, fades to black, no signal detected, then boots back up in 1920 X 1080. Fantastic.

Bought the player at Best Buy yesterday (to replace a SONY s-350 which did not last a month!). The player worked wonderfully for a day. Today, I turned it on and it went into LOAD mode and never budged from there. I tried the resetting function, but the player was oblivious to it. I unplugged it and plugged it back in thinking it would reset itself, but that also did not work. So, back to Best Buy tomorrow to return it. My next Blu Ray disc player will be my last attempt, if this fails, I am back to DVD players and the new technology can go on without me.

I spoke to SAMSUNG live chat and the person was useless. All she could do was tell me to reset the unit (which I tried before). Next she said the issue will need a support ticket and a technician to work on it. REALLY? A player that is not even a day old? I told her to forget it, that the player goes back tomorrow and I am going with another brand.

I have to say, if this is an attempt at getting people to stick with Blu Ray and make sure the technology survives they better start putting out players that actually work.

I replaced this unit with the LG BD390. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The remote works faster and easier (without having to press the buttons countless times as i had to do with the Samsung). The load speed is lightning fast. Netflix works great and equally fast. Best of all, the machine WORKS! It took me forever to make the move to Bluray..thinking upconverted DVDs would be good enough for me. I finally decided to give Bluray a try, but skeptically thought I'd be returning the unit after comparing it to an Oppo 970 upconverting player.

This player is far better than I expected or even hoped! Bluray picture quality is outstanding, and clearly better than upconverted Standards. I would say 25% better than Standard DVDs. However, upconversion of regular disks is incredible...and some look near Bluray quality (Space Cowboys for example) on our Samsung LN52A650. The upconversion on this player is even better than the Oppo...compared side by side. I doubt you'll find a better picture for your Standard DVD collection. I am very impressed. It is compatible with my older AV Home Theater system and produces improved sound quality to my aging system (although Oppo does do a better job on the audio). Netflix and Pandora are easy to set up and nice features. Note Pandora is free; Netflix you must be a member. Remote is very similar to the Samsung LN52A650 remote, and most functions on TV and DVD player are interchangeable on the two remotes. The two work well together, and when you turn on the DVD player...the TV automatically picks it up, without you having to switch over to it. I highly recommend this player and making the move to Bluray. The picture produced by this Bluray player and on this HDTV is simply breathtaking.

Other great features include: extremely fast loading times, USB memory stick, wireless dongle, sleek design, nice remote. I like the slightly raised buttons on top of the unit, since I can "feel" my way through the buttons when the room is dark. The buttons are far enough in front that you could stack something on top if you needed to (just set whatever is on top slightly back).

I have not tried connecting to my PC to access photos or video, so cannot comment on that aspect.

AFTER I CALLED SAMSUNG ABOUT THIS THEY TOLD ME THE MACHINE MIGHT PLAY IT BUT THE DO NOT SUPPORT THE FORMAT. THEY ALSO SAID WHILE TESTING IN THE LAB THIS MACHINE MIGHT PLAY DVD + R TODAY AND NOT PLAY IT TOMORROW. I FOUND THIS ANSWER VERY STRANGE AS THERE IS NO CONSISTANT SITUATION OF THE DISC BEING ABLE TO PLAY DVD+R. NOTE SOME OTHER DEALERS SELLING THIS UNIT LISTS IT TO HAVE DVD+R.

IN CONCLUSION THIS WILL BE A GREAT MACHINE IF YOU GET THE WI-FI WORKING AND THAT IT SUPPORTS DVD + R. THE PRICE IS HIGH FOR PROBLEMS LIKE THESE.

While I was impressed with the purported capabilities of this player, I was skeptical about how they would really work once I got it home. Setup was rather easy. The wireless dongle found my network and got me signed in the first time, but then inexplicably failed the next time I sat down to watch netflix. It took 3 power cycles to get it back.

Each time I power on the unit, it takes up to a minute or longer to "grab" wireless signal before you can access Pandora or Netflix. The menus in each are clunky and slow to respond. What's worse, compared to my XBOX 360 in the same entertainment center running on wireless which was able to get HD video quality over Netflix, the Samsung could barely muster 2 or 3 bars of signal. I tried repositioning the dongle on the front of the player with no change in signal strength even though it was practically in sight of the wireless router 20 feet away. This alone was unforgivable because what's the point of watching s movie on your large screen when you can only get it in low-quality? I'd rather watch it on my XBOX with its quicker menu and much faster wireless connection.

Pandora is an awesome service, so I was really happy to see it integrated into the player. The same issue that ruined Netflix, ruined Pandora. After you waited the minute or so for wireless connection, Pandora took a while to load and kept logging me out so I had to manually enter my account info each time I wanted to listen. With the clunky menu and slow responding controls, this takes time. I'd just as soon purchase a Wadia 170 iTransport and plug in my ipod touch over wireless for Pandora. At $379, the Wadia played better sound and the ipod touch took less than a second to find my wireless connection while the Samsung took ages.

Video quality was good, but no better than the Panasonic BD35 that it was replacing. Worse still, the Samsung would NOT output 24p video to my Panasonic PZ850, while the BD35 would. When you select it in the Samsung's menu, it attempts the connect and then reverts back to regular video with no 24p engaged. Load times were not noticeably faster than the BD35 though,admittedly, I did not time it.

Too many companies release products that they think the consumer wants before they are ready to be put out. We get to deal with the kinks and wait for a firmware upgrade. Hi,

I bought the Samsung LN52A850 and I love it and wanted to get a top of the line Blue Ray player to match this unit. I bought the 3600 model and it arrived on time just as Amazon promised. Good work to the Amazon team.

Now the bad part was that once I had it all set up and tried to install a DVD, the tray would not eject to receive it. I called Samsung CS and tried all sorts of resets to no avail. My son is home from the Army and my daughther came home from college and were excited about the unit but no joy. The tech help at Samsung was terrible. "Well you know we make a lot of these and some are defective, so what do you expect. Nuts to this. I was not pleased with this answer to say the least.

Amazon was great and is replacing the unit but I have some doubts about Samsungs dedication to quality. By the way I am a certified 6 Sigma Black Belt in Quality so he should be fired for his attitude and his poor customer service attitude.

Player was returned for mechanical and design problems

Pro's: Excellent DVD and Blu Ray Video.

Con's: Player made clicking sounds during playback of video on both DVD's and Blu Ray disks.It would hang-up and produce digital pixelation.

WI FI connectivity: Great concept, poor design. Tried to connect this system to an established wireless network that supports 4 computers and 3 Nintendo devices with no problems.
After numerous attempts, and changing various settings, I called Customer support. First person had me try all 4 encryption types with the password, which did nothing, but take time. Transfered me to the next person in the support line, at 8:59 pm, to which I got the recording that Tech support was closed.. Called back and the recording informed me that Tech support closed at 9pm.

Next morning , the first person I talk with was convinced that my network was the problem( even though 7 devices could connect to it). My third call was to a Tier 2 support person, and finally some progress was made. First, he informed me that the Samsung Device would not support a two word name for the network..so we changed the network name to a single word, and the player finally recognized the network. The next problem was the dynamic (automatic) address retrieval for the router/ISP. Had to manually input all the info. A very painful process on the Samsung. This added to the fact that the player does not store this info when its turned off, was a game stopper. FInally tried to connect to NetFlix and was rewarded with a gateway ping failure. The support person said this is where he could not help anymore.. This was end end of trying to connect with the WiFI

We were going to keep the unit because of the playback quality and hope for a firmware update that would enhance WiFi connectivity. With the drive noises and skipping during playback, we returned the unit.

We will order a BD-1600 since the playback mechanism is the same as the BD- 3600. We can still get NetFlix thru ethernet or someone else's WiFI Bridge, and a 1 GB USB drive will give you BD Live.

Wireless access to Netflix was my key criteria when I started looking for my first Blu-ray player. Once I read CNET's statement that this unit was a huge leap ahead, I was sold.

I bought and connected it to my new Samsung UN46B7100, both of which I bought at Best Buy. Connecting it to my wireless network went smoothly. I put in The Matrix on DVD. It looked as good as a DVD could look. That is, it looked good until it froze up. After several attempts, I restarted the player and put in a new Blu-ray disc. Fifteen minutes later it froze. Samsung customer support quickly recommended that I return the player. Best Buy exchanged it.

Unit 2 had the same issue. Best Buy suggested I try a different brand and mentioned that another customer had returned 3 units. I wasn't ready to give up, and I took unit 3 home. It only seemed prudent that I give it a thorough testing. It played DVDs, Blu-rays, and streaming Netflix films for 12 hours. During that time I noticed that the audio was slightly behind the video, which was especially pronounced in concert footage. Customer support had me change various setting to no avail. In hour 13 the player froze up just as the others had. I gave up. I returned the unit and took home an LG B390. I've had it playing for 24 hours and it has performed excellently.

I have 2 suggestions for anyone reading this: thoroughly test any player and be aware that CNET doesn't review units that it buys in stores. I've had my BD-P3600 for a month now... too long to send it back.
The reason I opted for the Samsung over competing Blurays was that it had features the others didn't. Specifically, the wireless network connection and 1G onboard memory enticed me into thinking I was buying a future-proof product. Wrong. These features were obviously rushed to market. I learned the hard way that if you don't have a wireless network with extraordinary signal strength (at least 3 bars on Samsung's meter) you can't establish or maintain a connection, regardless of what other network components you might have that work just fine. I am stuck now with either hooking the player up with wired ethernet (more $$) or waiting for a firmware upgrade that will fix the problem. Samsung will never admit they even have a problem. Just be advised that wireless hookup will be a crapshoot. Works for some, not for me.

AV playback, up-conversion, & decoding are excellent so i will give the product 3 stars for that, but there are other less expensive players available that match or exceed the 3600's capabilites in this area.

Also, I am a long-time Netflix subscriber. The movies sent are used, naturally, and very seldom in pristine condition. BD-P3600 is a bit finicky about scratched discs of older DVD movies. I've had some that simply would not play on it. No problems with blu-ray discs so far. Thank goodness I've kept my trusty old Denon online as a backup.

We tried two Samsung BD-P3600 players. The first malfunctioned within hours, and the second had problems straight out of the box. As snazzy as this item could be, it's not worth the money. Since day one I have had trouble playing most of the blu ray disks that I have tried. It just simply says "disk not readable" and spits it out. Today I called to check on firmware, and behold...they had a new update! Boy was I excited! Basically the player's concept and specifications are excellent - Netflix is a great feature, as is Pandora and the PC Streaming ideas are all above par.

There's just one problem - the player itself doesn't work that well. I was holding off on this review for after the first firmware update...which actually seems to have made things worse. Don't assume you'll be able to use PC Connect - I deal with networks all the time, and this thing simply will not work right. The player won't read any NTFS drives (flash or hard disks), either, so you'll have to reformat anything as FAT32 that you normally store media on (since the SAMBA capabilities are apparently shot).

Oh, and it doesn't support anonymous fileshares on your network, and it won't store a username and password for a known share. And you can't connect a USB keyboard, only storage devices. So you had better have a short username and password!

BD discs also freeze up on it, there are a few "known bad" titles, and then a lot which get problems on a regular basis. The player will occasionally freeze, and whether it's Netflix's fault or Samsung's, will sometimes drop audio or botch channels on Instant Streaming titles.

So far though, no serious HDMI synch issues, and hopefully most of the problems can be resolved with firmware upgrades...I'm calling Samsung support this weekend to leave a few voicemails, which will likely be ignored.

If you HAVE to get the Netflix or Pandora options, go for it, why not. But it's going to be a bumpy road and you'll likely toss your Blu-Ray player across the room for the trouble. If you just need a BD player, check out Oppo, they tend to make a great product, and I still use my Oppo DVD player instead of my P3600 for SD-DVDs.

I purchased this product for my husband's birthday in February. Loved it at first. Great picture and sound - easy set up. Within a few weeks noticed that the player would stop responding during movies (both bluray & dvd) to the remote control and the panel controls. After they walked me through about 5 different steps that I had already done myself, they concluded that it needed repair and I should send it in (despite being a unit that was only weeks old). I just today received a replacement unit after waiting over a month - 3 of those weeks were spent calling daily to convince them they did indeed have my defective unit since my online status showed that I needed to send the unit in to them! I was elated to receive the BDP - 3600 since it was a nice upgrade with some great new features. I unpacked the unit, plugged it in and set it up easily. Picture and sound are great and I love the Netflix & Pandora connectivity. Within 15 minutes of setup, it began making an electrical popping noise and the screen image would flash. I soon noticed that if you touch the power cord near the back of the unit, the player spontaneously turns off and on. I immediately called tech support (for the nearly 50th time!) to report the problem. Rather than apologetically offering to send me out another unit immediately, I was instructed to once again send the unit in so they can inspect it for damage and then possibly repair it. After reciting my long story and referencing my case file (which by this time was quite large) I was told this was my only option. I requested to speak to another supervisor and was told she would transfer my files to the next level and they would contact me within 48 - 72 hours. After receiving my unit, they assured me that hopefully I would get a repaired or new unit within 7 - 14 working days. And for all my trouble, they said they would send me a prepaid shipping label that I should get by email in 24 - 48 hours. If I could get my money back and get off this merry go round, I would! At this point, I have no choice but to continue to play their game in hopes of getting a functional unit for the nearly $400 I spent in February.

In summary - if I had this to do over again I WOULD NOT PURCHASE A SAMSUNG UNIT!

I'm so far beyond my ability to rate picture quality having just upgraded to this player paired with a Samsung LNB750 monitor. The picture is just gorgeous with a small amount of naked eye tweaking. I took my player out of the box, plugged it in to my Onkyo receiver and plugged in the dongle and had it connected to my WPA2 encrypted D-Link router (and immediately downloading the latest firmware) in...less than 10 minutes. This sleek little thing is a powerhouse, and works effortlessly with our Samsung TV. I love the Pandora and Netflix features, they're very easy to set up and use on our wireless network. Only complaint is the wait for the network to start up once it's turned on (about 30 sec. OMG!!). One touch of the power button on the remote turns on our TV and BD player, switches the source of the TV to the BD player, and (if no disc is inserted) gives you the option to choose Netflix or Pandora immediately. The picture quality is great, what I expected from our first blu-ray player, bought from Best Buy. We chose it for the memory and Netflix ability, but we can only get satellite internet here in the country, and Netflix requires 1.5mbps download. Also, playing standard DVDs it freezes up and skips, and Samsung told us to take it back and exchange it. This product is excellent. Although I am trying to figure out one minor thing as follows....

If you have a Samsung LCD HDTV with USB 2.0 and you want to utilize DLNA for home networking operations e.g. viewing stored content from your PC on your HDTV; additionally, you would also like to utilize this Blu-Ray player to access Netflix, etc.

Where do you connect the USB WIS09abgn dongle? Into the Blue Ray player or into the HDTV itself?

Bear in mind I would like to use both features simultaneously, DLNA and Netflix.

Theoretically you could connect the included USB dongle into either, but I am not sure which or if I would in fact need two separate USB dongles?

After 3 frustrating days with the p3600 with no helpful advice from Samsung customer support, I returned the P3600. The instructions are not accurate and the wireless set up just never worked. I replaced it with the LG bd390 and had it set up and connected to the internet in less than 15 minutes. First machine didn't work had to send it back to Amazon. 2nd unit worked great until I was prompted for a firware upgrade. After upgrading, the unit is now unresponsive. Remote doesn't work, but it works the tv just fine. The only buttons that work on the console are power and open. Can't even reboot it. Thanks for the firmware upgrade. I bought this unit last week. I think it looks sleek and smooth, and pays Blu Rays and regular DVD's well, but I have been totally unable to connect to the net via my home Airport Extreme network. I called Samsung, little help, and once I was escalated to the next level, that guy spent about 3 minutes with me before telling me I had to call my cable service for manual connection settings; IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS. My cable company guy at tech support spent 1/2 hour going through it with me very patiently (Charter), before he said "call Apple". I have tried everything, and nothing works. I bought this to access NetFlix on demand, but if I don't get it to connect, I am sending it back! I have about 4-5 hours invested in getting this to work.

Even on Samsung's website they imply that people have a hard time connecting. It seems the problem is with Samsung's propietary dongle.

Anyone with advice would be appreciated!

Addendum: Went to cnet's Samsung website and found some guidance about connecting and have gotten it to work. Could sign onto NetFlix and start watching streaming video right away! Would upgrade my review of this unit to 3 1/2 stars now. Still not 4-5 stars as it was a pain in the a** to get it connected in the first place. Samsung's tech support line could have helped more, and it SHOULD be easier to get the whole thing going. I bought a BD-P2500 at Christmas. Installation was a breeze. Blu-ray disc playback was great and Netflix streaming worked beautifully. Life was good UNTIL a firmware updated killed the electronics. The two stars are for the wonderful quality of the picture. I gigged it three stars for the frustration encountered when trying to access an Apple router for the Netflix and Pandora functions.

I just recently moved up to HD and have been very pleased with my Samsung TV and blu-ray player (bd-2500). I was so happy with HD that I added another TV for the bedroom. When I went to buy another blu-ray player, I decided to go with the Netflix-ready 3600 model.

After a number of hours of trying to connect the Samsung blu-ray player (BD-P3600) to my home wireless system, and after a very extended call to Samsung, I have repacked the player to return it.

I'm using an Apple Time Capsule for my wireless net and it works terrifically with a Samsung netbook (PC) and a Dell (Ubuntu). There's nothing wrong with the router. The player "sees" the network but does nothing when, after entering my WPA2 password, I press "BD Connect". It doesn't show that it's trying to connect, or that the password is wrong (which is what the Samsung tech asked about) - it just sits there as if I had not selected "connect." At Samsung's suggestion, I tried entering the password in all lower-case letters and I tried entering it as WPA and WEP. Nothing,

I have researched this situation online and some folks report that they have finally been able to connect to an Apple router after making modifications to the router's settings, but I don't want to mess with a wi-fi system that's working well. Against my better judgement, I purchased another Samsung product. I own several of their laser printers and have had many substandard experiences with their technical support staff. They are completely illogical and unorganized.

The allure of the 3600 and it's features, combined with the reviews were too much I suppose. So, I decided to give Samsung one more try. I hooked up the player, no muss no fuss. Initially everything worked fine. Picture is great, connected to my wifi network, signed up for Netflix and Pandora. Super cool. Then I started receiving messages to update my firmware. I ignored them. In my experience, most firmware updates are nothing but trouble. So, unless there is a critical fix, I don't do them. The only fix in this update was to improve the loading performance of some movies. I'll pass. Well, there's no way (at least that I could find) to turn that message off and it was getting awfully annoying. So, again, I relented and installed the firmware update. Since installing the update, none of the network functions work, and the firmware update reset all of my custom settings back to factory. How freaking annoying is that? The unit refuses to recognize the network it was previously working just fine with, so my Netflix and Pandora functions are now useless. Messages to Samsung tech support go unanswered and the brainless person on the phone will read through a troubleshooting protocol, at the end of which, nothing will have worked. At which point, they'll want you to bring the unit to an authorized Samsung warranty repair shop, which may or may not exist. When I attempted to warranty my laser printer, they sent me to 2 "authorized centers", neither of which accepted Samsung warranty repairs any longer because apparently Samsung doesn't pay reliably. After providing feedback to Samsung, I notice that 6 months later, the non-existent repair shop is still included in the list of authorized warranty providers. Lame. So, perhaps the unit can be made to work again, but what really upsets me is that now I have to waste MY time (something Samsung could care less about apparently) uninstalling the unit and driving it to service, during which time, I won't have a player. It's a simple thing. I just want a DVD player, you'd think they'd have this sorted by now, but apparently not. So, this is absolutely the last Samsung product of any type that I'll ever buy. I'm very unhappy and had to write this to make you buyers beware of the major pains I've had with this unit. I bought one with high expectations, and a simple thing like the DVD drawer failing to come out ruined it. But that's o.k. I returned it and got another one. I waited another few days and the new one arrived as Amazon promised. No problem here, Amazon is great at customer service. However, I turned it on and couldn't set up the wireless functions to work so help me. I tried everything. Called a bunch of tech support people. The unit simply doesn't like password encoded WPA networks. O.k. so I turn off all security settings and the unit connects to the internet! Hurray...albeit, my low-life neighbor is now sharing my wireless network. First screen to come up is "Firmware is available for download." I'm thinking maybe this can fix the WPA problem. O.k. I download the firmware and the unit drops dead. No nothing but the visual display that it is indeed on. Not working... but on. I'm out of o.k.'s by now. Call Amazon again with my tail between my legs after a terrible attempt at Samsung support. I liked the BD-P3600 for about a month. Then it imploded. Lucky for me I was able to return it. It started skipping and pixelating on regular DVDs occasionally, then progressed in a matter of days to frequently skipping, then simply stopped playing them altogether. the device worked like a dream until i did the update, now i keep getting no signal through hdmi. I have seen others on the net with this same problem plus a host of other problems since upgrading the firmware to 1.03. I purchased a BD-P2500 Samsung player from Amazon in May 2009. It performed well for approximately 2 weeks until I installed a software upgrade. After this, the HDMI interface failed to reliably connect to my Samsung LCD TV. The only solution was to power cycle the player multiple times until it would somehow miraculously start working. Since the player was under warrantee, I sent it to Samsungs New Jersey repair facility for repair on May 28 2009. On or about June 2 2009 I was notified via e-mail that the player was received and "Your product should be shipped back to you within 5 business days". After approximately a week I called their service center to find out that parts needed to fix my player were on back order and Samsung did not have any estimate on how long it would take to get the necessary parts. After multiple calls to find out the status of my player ( as the Samsung repair tracking web site would not work reliably ) I was told Samsung could not repair my BD-2500 and they would need to send me a new model BD-P3600 with comparable features. After more phone calls to find out when I would get my new player I finally received it on or about July 6 2009. It took from May 26 2009 to July 6 2009 for Samsung to get me a new player. Now this is the good part! The new BP-3600 worked for approximately ½ hour before it totally failed. So... I sent it back to Samsung on or about July 7th 2009 and called Samsung to express my disappointment and tell them I wanted a new product shipped immediately. I was told they would send a new unit but not until they received the failed unit. After approximately one and one half weeks I called Samsung to find out, yet again, the status of my replacement unit. I was told they hadn't received it. Luckily, I had the UPS tracking number and after some time Samsung service "found it". I was told a new unit would be shipped within 7 days. After yet another week or so, I called again to make sure my unit had been shipped. I was told some kind of approval from their service center to ship my unit was not given to their shipper and hence nothing had happened. At this point, I informed them forcefully of my disappointment and of the general incompetence of their organization and I wanted satisfaction. I was "promised" that the hold up would be fixed and my unit would be shipped the next day and I would be notified by e-mail it had been sent and I would get a tracking number. After another 4 or 5 days, I still had not received a tracking number so I called again. I was informed they had no record the unit had been shipped and it needed approval from their service center to ship it to me. At this point I more or less lost it and asked to speak to someone at Samsung to complain (as I found out everyone I had been talking to up to this point was a third party contractor for Samsung). The Samsung representative informed me that there was no record of my product being shipped and they would "look into it". I was also informed that there was no one higher up in their organization I could complain to and if I wanted to complain I could write to the office of the president. This occurred on August 7th. The next day ( August 8th) I received a new BD-P3600. Amazingly, Samsung had sent me a replacement yet their organization had no record of it. Total time from the beginning of this saga on May 28th to final resolution on August 8th was about 2.5 months.

Now, if you want to buy a Samsung blue ray player go right ahead. Let the buyer beware.

I just came home with the 4th Samsung BD-P3600 from Bill Smiths (local retailer) and already I'm having issues. The one I took back yesterday #1 was bad but at least it played most of the time. The second one didn't work at all and the 3rd one I didn't get out of the store with after insisting they prove it worked, they couldn't and refused to open any more. I was shocked that a retailer would not want to sell a working product. If I were the salesman I would open all of them to see if they too were defective before sending them home with someone. I ended up taking an unused floor model (#4) that they got to play for me a few minutes. Now I've spent the last hour setting this one up but already its not resonding to some of the remote control commands, however I was able to upgrade the firmware so well see what happens now.

Bottom line if you don't have a Samsung TV theirs no benifit to this player, its certainly not worth the agravation and Samsung need to get their act together.

UPDATE: returned #4 after a week, the issues with it not resonding to some of the remote control commands did not resolve it self after the firmware update and after calling Samsung customer service. Samsung told me there were no known problems for their blu-ray players, I told the rep. to do himself a favor and do a web search... SAMSUNG BLU-RAY/ PROBLEMS... and open open his eyes but he continued to deny. He did talk me into resetting the player, that takes the unit back to the factory settings. I ask him... if it didn't work right the first time from the factory how is resetting going to help, He said he didn't know but it just does. Well he was wrong all that did is deleat all the settings I finally got in with the unit not resonding to the remote properly. The guys at the local retailer were scratching their heads on it too. They did at their credit open another box and we tryed #5 right in the store and it just got a distorted screen and never did work. The funny thing was the salesman had just told me that after I left last week that they had opened all the remaining units and tested them, he then stated they all worked. After #5 didn't work at all he said that was the only one they hadn't checked. You beleive him right?. Commision salesman their the best huh?. I guess I should feel a little sorry for them, kinda hard to sell a product that repeatedly doesn't work. The good news is they are sending me a refund check.

I would still give 1 star only because when # 1 & # 4 played they were great sound & picture, the netflix & pandora were also fantastic, that why I kept trying to get one that would work properly. Purchased the Samsung BD-P3600 for the Wi-Fi connectivity, Netflix and Pandora streaming, and USB input capabilities. This was a step up from my current Samsung BD-P1500, which performed flawlessly as a Blu-ray disc player, but was lacking the networking and other newer technology being offered by Samsung's BD-P1600, 3600, and 4600, and LG's BD390. Chose Samsung over LG because of the positive experience with my current Samsung player. BAD CHOICE!

The FIRST unit that I purchased performed perfectly in all respects for about an hour or so before starting to malfunction and freeze up. The only recovery from these crashes was power-off and on. Freezes occurred with more frequency until the unit became totally non-responsive and wouldn't even boot up. BTW, firmware was successfully downloaded and updated during the short period that the system was functional. Also during that relatively brief time of normal operation, everything worked; Blu-ray disk playing, Netflix and Pandora streaming, and USB media playing.

Exchanged the FIRST BD-P3600 for a SECOND BD-P3600, hoping for a better experience. ANOTHER BAD CHOICE!

The second unit failed as miserably as the first one. Same symptoms. Same results.

Exchanged the SECOND BD-P3600 for the LG BD-390. GREAT CHOICE!

The LG BD390 works perfectly. No lockups. No failures. Netflix streaming is faster. The only trade-off was Pandora - a small price to pay for otherwise flawless performance.

The BD-P3600 would be a great unit if it wasn't so terribly unstable. Shame on Samsung for shipping such a product.

I first hooked up my new player about 3 months ago. All was well. I could stream NetFlix and listen to Pandora. Then, there was a series of firmware upgrades.

UPGRADE 1: At this point, pausing a streaming NetFlix movie and resuming play became almost the equivalent of restarting the movie. The player no longer remembered where it was when it had stopped.

UPGRADE 2: BlockBuster and YouTube were added. The pause/restart problem persisted. AND... now Pandora stops after about 20 minutes and the only way to get it to restart (for another 20 minute interval) is to COMPLETELY POWER DOWN the unit.

UPGRADE 3: Now the pause/restart problem is fixed. Pandora? Not a chance.

Samsung customer service is in India, and THEY ARE HORRIBLE. They always insist that you reset you player, which destroys internet settings.

I had a choice between this and the LG player. Each streamed NetFlix, a feature important to me.

I chose Samsung because of Pandora. Now Pandora doesn't work, so I'm going to see if I can return the unit in exchange for the LG.

Tonight, the tech couldn't understand me when I told him that Pandora worked for 20 minutes. He kept asking if I could reset my connection. I told him, "It's not the connection... NetFlix and YouTube work fine. It's a firmware issue." He never understood. Finally he transferred me to another part of the company, where the office was closed.

This product is a POS. Plain and simple... a good idea in the hands of incompetents. How can a firmware release occur with such obvious bugs in it? We're not talking esoterica here... I mean one of the player's MOST BASIC FUNCTIONS is streaming stuff, and 1/3 of your player's content doesn't work. Check CNet. There are hundreds of "Pandora is broken" posts.
